I'm wondering if anyone has the commander model. And, did you trade a bird or storm for it? Currently owning a storm, I like the riding position compared to the position on the bird I had before it. The bars forward and higher keep me sitting up taller.

How does the position compare to other birds?

The local dealers do not have one to sit on.

Rode one today.

My bike was in for a service and took the Commander out for a spin. Bikes likes/dislikes are very personal so just my opinion.

The things I like:

The chassis: New chassis is an improvement and the bike is really planted.
Design tweaks on the engine: The engine is a whole lot better looking.
Comfort: Very comfortable, again a much improved seat.
Overall looks

Things I do not like:

The metal plate behind the lights - looks unfinished.
The wheel barrow handle bars.
Lack of power - Storm has noticeably more power (as do the 1700 originals).
Engine note of the stock pipes - as with all bikes these days.
Foot boards - just not for me.
Riding position - but then I am a gangly youth.

Overall the Storm is the best variant of the T'bird range in my opinion. With the Commander they have missed a trick - too similar a ride to the LT. That chassis with a striped down blacked out treatment would be my recommendation. Until then the Strom is the number one T'bird for me. But then I do ride a Rocket Roadster these days so what do I know?

I had not realized that there was a difference in performance? I've not heard about that. Any details on that?

An, by lack of response, I'm thinking no one has bought one yet...?

Its 4bhp less than the storm and 10kg heavier.

A for the riding position... I sat on the LT at Brit Jam and love the seat. With the commander, are the bars lower and wider like a beach comber? Or are that up and a little forward like the storm?

I really want to find one to hop on locally.

Hi Guys, I traded my bird for the commander....love it...
Got the dealer to swap the footpegs from my old bike onto the the commander cos I hate the boards,,just my preference...

Seating is a huge improvement...
Fitted the ikon progressive springs and the 440,s from the old bike..handles great....the standard suspension is also a big improvement .
The dual headlights also reduce some of the buffeting at higher speeds which is a plus.
Bike delivers its power differently to my old 1700, more linear but still feels very strong 2 to 4000 rpm out on the road...I thought it was a cam thing but all 1700s have same cam specs so it must be the ecu programme..Mine was a pig on a cold start so we loaded the tors tune and its good now, still have standard exhaust, triumph tors are too quiet with no character so I,m waiting on the aftermarket to come up with something decent.
No lugs on the steering for a padlock,,,grrrr..
Overall finish is also higher quality.mines the red job.
I,m 5.10" 12 1/2 stone weight......177cm 83 kgs and bike suits me fine...I like the bars ,just right for me..
Keep ya posted as the miles add up, only done 1200kms/700miles mixed city and some higher speed country running so far...cheers, Tadpole

I need to sit on one to compare to the storm. I like my storm more than the original bird I had. Would the commander be more like one or the other?

I think the power difference you feel is the exhaust valve, I took one for a spin and noticed the difference.

Sat on one today. Not happy with the bars or the boards. The seat is an obvious improvement. And the paint was nice. But not a fan of the bars at all. And the front tire is shorter and fatter. I like the regular tbird front tire.

Oh, and what's with the steel thing behind the headlamps? Unfinished is correct. It had two "dents" in it. I wonder if that's where it is attached behind the lamps. And on the sides, the seams didn't line up at all. The pieces fit together at the top, but there is a space at the bottom. Looks poorly done. Weird.
