Went to check my oil yesterday and discovered the actual stick had fallen out of the fancy crome knob and was down inside the case! !!
I don't check the oil often so I reckon it had been like that for some time without causing any damage...
I first tried to fish it out with a magnet; no luck, it's not magnetic.
The orifice is too tight for mechanical fingers so. ..get a load of this. ..I chewed a piece of gum until all the sugar was gone, crammed it inside the end of a drinking straw and then pushed it down over the dip stick. Pulled it out on the first try proud of my self.
Put thread lock on and reinstalled...Bob's your uncle

Great save I'm glad it worked out for you It's amazing how you can come up with a simple solution to a problem sometimes when required.

Way to go! Are you going to change your screen name to McGyver now? Btw, I once bypassed a clogged fuel filter by the side of the road with nothing but a ballpoint pen and a pocket knife, although in my opinion, drinking straw with chewing gum is far more clever!

If I'd have done that, I'd have a dipstick and a wad of gum in my sump.

Nice job!

Jolly good, I say! Well done!

I notice when I arrive at a typical rally all of the HD riders bow down down out of respect. My friend (an HD rider) says that I'm mistaken and that the HD guys are bending over to pick up rocks to throw at me. Thankfully, I have yet to be hit by a rock and if need be I can out run them all.
