| Posted : 26 Sep 2014 - 10:22 Post title : Aussie spare parts prices - experience | | All Aussies on this forum will be well aware of the outrageously inflated cost of Triumph spare parts in this country. I recently had a rear brake overheat (don't ask!) and the brake was continuously dragging on the disc. Problem according to my local dealer was that the seals had been damaged and that is why the brake was dragging. Solution? New seals, right? Noooooooo!!!! Get a call saying you can't buy seals and the whole freakin rear brake caliper assembly has to be replaced at a cost of......wait for it......AUD $950!! After my heart had actually resumed normal operation and the involuntary expletives had left my lips I told the person from the 'highway robbery'....sorry....'parts' department that I would do my own research as I wasn't really amenable to just chucking nigh on a thousand dollars at them. Next day I made some enquiries online with Triumph and a triumph spares website in the good ol' USofA. Unfortunately, the bit about not being able to buy the seals was apparently true but the good news was I could buy the whole caliper assembly for just under AUD $600 from the States, including freight. Before ordering I decided to visit my dealer and check that they would actually carry out the repair if I supplied the parts. 'Yeah, not an issue....however let me make some calls and see what I can do for you'. Bottom line, the dealer was able to match the cost of importing the parts from the US. Instant saving of AUD$350! Got to be happy with that. Do we get ripped off with Triumph parts prices in Australia? Do bears shit in the woods? My advice? Do what I did and see if your dealer can match the quote from a US supplier. Worth the effort!!!

Drop bears will attack mercilessly without warning and the unwary will fall prey to their blood sucking habits. They have been known to inflict great pain and even suck every last ounce of blood out of their victims......sort of like spare parts departments in dealerships.

Guy in the states was more than willing to send. Cause the aus dollar has dropped a shit load since then. Maybe shud group together tobuy bits?
Bigger problem was and is in my mind the crap service from the official trumper dealer in VIc, who shall not be named of course.
I say in Vic go to charlie in kensington
